A man, considering divorce from his wife, goes to Korea (from Hong Kong) to study in a Zen monastery.  Spiritual aspects of Buddhism as well as the human constraints of spirituality are carefully drawn.   Very powerful story.

An American teacher in Hong Kong befriends a girl who uses echo-location to move around with her eyes close.  Their relationship develops as the teacher comes to understand the reason for her behavior.  Isolation, loss, loneliness and hope all are thematic elements of this story.
